Petite joys
This final stretch of August has felt like a sleepy haze of organising various things, worrying about money, trying to catch up on sleep and desperately trying to find pockets of time that I can have to myself or spend with Harvey. It’s been manic, but at last we’re 75% of the way there with my best friend’s hen weekend, Harvey and I have narrowed down locations for our house hunt, I’ve managed to finish another 2 books, and we’ve squeezed in many a date night. Yay! Tonight I’m headed to Ireland for a long weekend with my best blogging girls and I’m so excited.
There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this week:
一. Monday’s dinner, cooked fresh with ingredients grown in our garden! (Dad made me a vegetarian variation of his famous Hainanese chicken rice, with tofu and fresh vegetables!)
二. My weekly Pilates class. I go during Monday lunchtime and it’s the perfect way to stretch myself out and prep for a fresh week. Plus, my instructor is the loveliest lady ever and is forever encouraging me to push a little further and reach for those goals!
三. The quiet rustle of pages being turned as I read before bed. Right now I’m midway through Neil Gaiman’s ‘Norse Mythology’ and am thoroughly enjoying it.
四. Seeing Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again again with my Mama and singing along to every single song!
五. Date night at the weekend, which included dinner at our favourite curry house in the Old Town. If you’re ever in Hertfordshire, particularly Stevenage, make time to eat at Spice Rouge and order their Paneer Tikka Masala with one or two garlic naans. Simply delicious!
六. Remembering my KeepCup every time I’ve been out running errands!
七. How quiet it is at the lake, right before sunset, during our evening dog walks.
八. Watching ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ on Netflix, of course! It’s been the talk of the Twitter town, and for good reason. So cute and the best late summer feel-good watch. I liked the book, but LOVED the film.
九. My first Barre class in a month! And it felt so good to be back.
十. Falling back in love with my beloved Glossier sweatshirt, which is easily one of the most worn items in my wardrobe. It’s so cosy and soft! Get 10% off your first order by shopping with me.
