Petite joys

Life has felt like it’s coming at me at 100mph this week. From a small car crash to a really busy and overwhelming work week, and plenty in between, I couldn’t be more glad that it’s Friday. 2020 really is(n’t) the gift that keeps giving, huh? As such, I’ve cancelled all of my weekend plans in favour of some reading and podcast time. It’s surprising how much I crave these little cornices of my old commuting routine; they’re little acts of self-care and me-time that I’ve truly shunned since being able to set my own days again. This week I’ve also felt that I’ve had to really dig deep to seek out the minute joys. But, as always, they’re there, just beneath the gritty surface.

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:

一. Re-uploading my Dream Address on ACNH and receiving the loveliest feedback from my lil AC community. I’m glad I re-joined the gaming community; it’s a good feeling to find people that unabashedly love the same things that you do!

二. An after-work dog walk with Louise and Milo. We’re still trying to build Milo’s confidence outdoors, but we’re getting there, for sure.

三. Time spent being creative for no reason other than to be creative.

四. Handmade face masks from my Mama. She lovingly sewed us all our own custom masks from old clothes meant to be donated.

五. A fresh pot of coffee. Nothing quite beats the smell or the taste.

六. Celebrating the successes of brilliant, awe-inspiring creators! This week I’ve LOVED reading Steph’s debut book, Fattily Ever After.

七. A really nice meeting with my manager. I don’t I’ve ever, in my eight years of working in the Real World, felt supported or encouraged. My manager – my first after four years of freelancing – always sets me on track and celebrates my successes with me.

八. Finally falling in love with a property on my house hunt! I don’t think it’s the house for me now that I’ve reconsidered, but I finally feel like I’m making some slow progress.

九. The grainy feel of book pages beneath your fingertips.

十. September sun grazing the shoulders.

What’re some of your petite joys lately?
