Petite joys

Boy oh boy could we all do with a few joys this fortnight…! It’s an odd time that we’re all experiencing and facing, and I haven’t been sure what to do in light of it all. I’m incredibly grateful that my part-time employer has granted us the ability to work from home. Our entire office is now working remotely and I feel really lucky to be able to do so.

To anybody reading this, please be mindful of your own actions and if you’re able to, protect those around you with some social distancing. Personally, I’ll be slowing down posts on here for a short while — it’ll give me much-needed time to breathe and work on other projects — so you can expect new Daisybutter content on Monday, Thursday and Sunday. I promise to share content worth staying home for!

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:

一. Taking 15 minutes every day to bullet journal and write; offloading thoughts, tasks and goals is my favourite way of decluttering my brain (I usually only do it weekly!).

二. How even-more-delicious my morning coffees are, now that I sip them slowly from the end of our garden, where our vegetable boxes are.

三. Our housewarming bai sun ceremony. The house is finally ours!

四. Crisp dog walks, touched with the promise of spring on the horizon.

五. Getting house jobs ticked from the list. My desk and bookcase are now finally organised and I couldn’t be happier about it! The next job is to sort out my kitchen cupboard… once I’m able to stock it.

六. The sense of community and people rallying round in times of crisis. My neighbour offered to pick us up anything from the shop when he grabbed his morning paper and it truly warmed my heart.

七. Appearing on BBC Three Counties Radio, BBC Radio Five Live, Voices of Islam Radio, and the Respect the Mic podcast. All from my viral Tweet!!

八. Spotting that the Linda McCartney vegan chicken bucket is on offer in Tesco!

九. The outpouring of kindness and support over this fortnight; I’ve opened doors early to my brand new Being British-born Chinese Facebook community, too.

十. An afternoon spent with my baby cousin, happily pulling all of my makeup out and running riot through the house with it!

What are some of your petite joys lately?
