Whenever I sit down to journal, I’m all too happy to concentrate on the negatives. Fleshing out the painful or hide-able parts of my day, and finding catharsis in seeing those thoughts as words on paper and not floating around in this Pisces mind of mine. Without doubt, I’ll then always flip to the gratitude list part of my bullet journal. And that’s when my mood changes.
Lately I’ve had more bad and neutral days than good, and I’m learning that that’s okay. I’ve no idea why I feel like I need to have it together all the time or why I need to be a force of positivity all the time. And realising that has been the biggest sigh of relief.
There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:
一. Booking a random day off work ‘just because’, and spending it simply – reading, playing games and chatting to friends.
二. My new Stardew Valley mods!! I caved (because… lockdown 3.0) and bought another copy on Steam, rather than on my Switch, and cosy evenings in just got cosier. (I’m using the Magical Girl Interface in the photo!)
三. Turnip cake for breakfast, with a teaspoon of crispy chilli oil and a splash of soy sauce.
四. Dreaming of that ever-fabled first post-pandemic trip. I’m envisioning a solo getaway to a snug little cabin, with books, comforting recipes to cook and my Switch in tow.
五. Mid-morning dance parties with my sister. They’re a necessity at this point.
六. Finally managing to get words onto paper. Or screen. I had a very late night blogging moment a few nights ago, and it seems to have done me the world of good for your girl is finally writing again!
七. Reaching the 500 sales mark at & Chai!! We’re stepping closer and closer to our dreams of working together full-time as a sister unit, and we’re so excited about what’s to come next.
八. New sheets, freshly laundered.
九. New favourite chocolates; important lockdown discoveries.
十. Picking up post from the welcome mat at the front door, and spotting handwritten notes from my friends. I am the luckiest person, sometimes.
