Open-hearted joys 開開心心 56

… And just like that, August slipped away like a moment in time.

I’m not sure what happened last Sunday (I do, I was tired and realised my Sundaze post was a big ol’ unnecessary jumble of thoughts), so it feels like an age since I last checked in and wrote anything more chatty and personal. Although, does it? I’ve returned to my little day-in-the-life posts and I’m sort of loving it. It feels like old school blog-writing in a big quiet way. Yes, I think I do love it. Lately I have found it tricky to want to post here, at least publicly. I write and write and save it all for myself, and that’s how I like it at the moment. However, my beloved September start is just ‘round the corner and life is full of exciting new beginnings and surprises at the moment!

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer, details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite, open-hearted joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:

一. Having not one set, but TWO, of dog paws rushing around the house. We’ve been looking after my brother’s puppy this fortnight and she has been an absolute dream! I had, however, just about forgotten just how much work puppies are.

二. Celebrating all the family birthdays. My parents, my partner’s sister and parent, and then some…! Not that I can complain, given all the yummy food we’ve had booked in!

三. Heading out into the woods for after-work walks while it’s still somewhat light out. Late summer is just glorious, isn’t it? Cardigans, bare legs, sunbeams peering their curious way through leafy canopies.

四. Fresh sheets hanging from the line.

五. A day spent in London with Phoebe, bookshop and café-hopping!

六. Remembering you’ve meal-prepped for the week, so evenings feel luxuriously long.

七. Succumbing to tiredness by 9.30pm. Sometimes, you do just need to sleep. Plus, I’ve turned a corner with my gym workouts lately – no wonder I’m needing more sleep, water and food!

八. Picking up Milo after his day-long vet visit. He was so happy to see me and relieved to get home after having some dental work and teeth out. And I was so grateful that the vets looked after him so beautifully.

九. WFH all summer, which has meant being able to read on my screen breaks!

十. Morning dew on our dog walks, soaking through my old holey trainers but a joy nonetheless.

What are some little joys from your life lately?
