New Year, Same Me
The dawn of a New Year can bring plenty of emotions. A fresh start can be exciting, but it can feel equally daunting and overwhelming. A few years ago, I wrote a piece about not hitting the ground running and it’s something I’ve kept to ever since. That being said, I’ve continued to grow and evolve, and experienced some of my best years yet.
When it came to reflecting on my 2023, I felt largely that it was a stepping stone year: a year of hard chapters and big lessons, punctuated by glimmers, habits and rituals I’m really proud of and the best that my relationship and friendships have ever been. These lessons, habits and rituals are all things to keep in my pocket and carry into 2024, 12 promising months yet to be filled.
A New Year doesn’t always equate a ‘new you’. In fact, I’m positive that it’s important to hold onto the best parts of yourself and the work-in-progress parts of yourself, because isn’t that what life is all about? Stepping into seasons of growth and slowly levelling up into who you’ve been all along?
In 2024, I’m not making any big changes. Instead, I hope to continue the current ‘in’s and out’s’ zeitgeist and work on myself and my future just as slowly as I always have. Daily or weekly reviews of what’s in and out, improving myself by 1% every day. It’s manageable, it works and it serves me for the goals I’m working towards. Take this as your reminder that some goals are for the day, others are for the week, and many stretch further than a year anyway, so this January start is really all for the good of a stable yet often exploitative marketing calendar.
Here’s to a New Year, same me.
