Petite joys
August slipped away like a bottle of wine.
Damn, Taylor Swift was so right once again, because somehow we’re in September. Even if it does feel like 495205th March. I’m usually all for the September start, I’d even planned in a post about it, but it hasn’t felt that way this year. I did my month-end journalling and felt pretty much the same as the month before. Nevertheless, it’s been a busy and oh so exciting time for me recently, and so I had a plethora of joys to share from my bullet journal.
There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:
一. Celebratory cups of chai after a writing breakthrough. I’ve had such writing fog recently, and it’s felt particularly hard to get words on paper, but we’ve had a breakthrough at last!
二. My new foot-warming hot water bottle, a lil treat from Harvey.
三. Those fleeting few seconds of pause before a tumbling rainstorm.
四. Starting to re-terraform and decorate my Animal Crossing island from scratch! I flattened my island, so that I could get cosy and play (slowly) all through autumn.
五. That momentary euphoria when all the laundry has been done, carpets vacuumed and surfaces wiped down. Dang, am I an adult now?! That, was joyful?
六. A deliciously long, start-of-September walk with Sarah. Social distancing never felt so free. We clambered down and up Reigate Hill, talked until the cows came home (literally) and rounded things off with a cheeky ice-cream afterwards.
七. Burning candles, blended and hand-poured by me(!!)
八. The release in your limbs as you slip into bed after just-another-day.
九. House-hunting, and trying to imagine ourselves living in new spaces. I’m realising now that it takes a fair bit of imagination around everything else!
十. Making a vegan lasagna with my sister. You truly can’t beat comfort food!
What are some of your petite joys lately?
