Sundaze 310: Home from Bali and my reset routine

Happy Sundaze, my loves!

I come to you freshly home from our big family summer holiday, trying to beat jet lag but, mostly, feeling so nostalgic for the days that I’d return from a trip and immediately open my laptop to write all about it. Eddie and I kept joking throughout our trip that I was tiptoeing back into my influencer life and, honestly, it really did feel like that. I found myself taking endless storytelling photos, making notes in my notebook, and collecting business cards so I could share recommendations. We’re so back, people! Two whole weeks away from screens and my work commitments felt unbelievably good. I feel rested and relaxed for the first time in a long time.

Familymaxxing in Bali and Ipoh

Like I said, we’ve just returned from a big trip. Sometime last year, Eddie’s sister mentioned that she wanted to plan an ‘old school’ family holiday for their entire family, including partners, before her youngest starts school. So, we all jetted off for a summer holiday in Bali! We spent 10 days together, splitting our time between Ubud and Nusa Lembongan, and it was so much fun. I wasn’t the hugest fan of Bali when I went in 2016, and it is still not my favourite destination (I’ll get onto that later), but we had a fab time together. After 10 days, Eddie and I divided off from the group and flew to Malaysia to spend time with my family, including my beloved 90-year-old Grandma. Those four days felt so precious to me that I’m still trying to put them into words.

My post-travel reset routine

Landing at 5am after a 13-hour flight isn’t the most conducive to a jet lag-beating weekend, but I’d like to think that after a lifetime of flying long-haul to visit family I’ve nailed my jet lag routine. Today has been packed with a nap, laundry, unpacking, a grocery run, a solo lunch date, and getting myself organised. After the essential hot shower and taking my Po Chai pills for bloating, I always go straight into laundry and then a well-timed nap. Keeping myself active with things like a walk, tidying my things away, and restocking the fridge also helps me to stay awake and slowly get tired ‘on time’.

Currently reading

While we were travelling, I ambitiously packed two books. First, The Brothers Karamazov for my Bali beach read. I’m loving it so far! Family drama with a hundred side quests? Sign me up. I’m also reading Elena Ferrante’s My Brilliant Friend, which I’m enjoying, but don’t find myself reaching for as often as TBK. Big book summer continues!
