Open-hearted joys 開開心心 101

Happy Friday, my loves!

A short but glorious week here, since we started with a bank holiday. It’s been packed with good things, though, and I’m stepping into the weekend feeling like my cup is full. Work was hectic and so was my after-hours diary, but spending time ‘in the real world’ as opposed to be home sanctuary always leaves me full of inspiration to make things. And make things I have! Phone charms, novel chapters, painting box frames just for fun, countless coffees, a mess, the bed, Substack essays… I have been makin’!

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer, details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of open-hearted joys, the moments that’ve woven poetry to my days, this week.

一. Bank holiday lay-ins. Read: provider of the best sleep ever.

二. The first early autumn outfit of the season. I love how a good outfit can make you feel good, all day, and that’s exactly what my satin padded shoulder top, black capris and leopard-print ballerina flats did for me on Tuesday.

三. Finally befriending our neighbour’s adorable cat, and getting cuddles in the morning!

四. Mid-week girls’ night. Nothing better than good food, great conversation, and even better company. I have a tendency to hibernate year-round, but my friends remind me that outside time is good too. Even if it means staying up past my bedtime. (Of 8.30pm!)

五. 75 Hard days with my sister! There is beauty in the chaos! Routine, be mine!

六. Sending our new candle collection’s labels to print!! This collection is one of two new ones we’re launching, and they’ve been two years in the making. It feels like a real milestone for us.

七. The cup of tea you make after a particularly long day at work.

八. A pep talk from my girls and realising that I’m probably doing better than I thought.

九. Nights drawing in faster.

十. How the raindrops chase each other down the windowpanes, because everyone and everything does have somewhere to be.

Share a joy from your week in the comments, and I’ll see you again next Friday.
