Open-hearted joys 開開心心 26

After a tumultuous April and then some, I’m finally starting to find my usual optimism and sunnier outlook on life again. And it feels good. I could genuinely feel a palpable shift in the air on my usual ‘hot girl walk’, where I remembered to take stock of the sturdy steps I was placing on the ground, the cheery birdsong amongst the trees, the warm sun on my shoulders, the thought of returning home to my cosy sanctuary and getting to cuddle my dog. Honestly? Not much of that was happening in some earlier weeks.

That’s fine too. Without darkness, there’s no light.

There’s a lot to be said for appreciating the smaller, not necessarily finer details of the everyday mundane. Here’s to another list of petite, open-hearted joys, the moments that’ve brought and woven poetry to my days, this fortnight:

一. Glimpsing my new citrine crystal on my desk – beautiful and functional.

二. How it feels when someone remembers the smallest things about you, especially in this modern age of constant movement and change.

三. Starting my weeks with a heavy Monday lifting session. It always feels so empowering!

四. Freshly washed bedsheets and laundered towels. Dang I feel like a together woman on Sundays at the moment.

五. Our whole family gathering together to celebrate Louise’s birthday! Now that things have opened up, we rarely get the change to get together properly.

六. The first no-jacket-needed day of a British spring.

七. Celebrating milestones and achievements with friends over delicious food.

八. The Kirby and the Forgotten Land soundtrack. Absolutely immaculate.

九. Spy x Family. That’s all.

十. Soft afternoons, golden light shimmering through voile curtains, with This Love (Taylor’s Version) playing through the speakers. I couldn’t think of a better work setup, to be quite honest.

What’re some of the little joys in your life lately?
